Indicia detection & verification - automated and accurate

With Parascript StampVerify, postal services can reduce operating costs and increase mail sorting efficiency and reliability. StampVerify delivers streamlined automatic indicia location and detection for envelope images including stamps, meter marks, facing identification marks, information based indicia, or US postal stationary. StampVerify also determines types and total values for all valid indicia.

Background

Mail processing is still a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. Delivered mail must have stamps or “postal indicia” verifying that proper postage has been paid - and permits obtained - which allows items to enter the domestic mail delivery network. Without proof of payment, the postal service returns mailed items to senders, increasing inefficiencies and costs.

Image-based indicia verification of standard-sized envelopes and cards - with image capture and recognition capabilities - can significantly improve processing efficiency for standard items. However, existing automatic indicia detection systems are used primarily to locate indicia that determine the orientation of mail pieces, and to properly face the mail for subsequent processing. The verification of postage validity and value detection rely on error-prone manual labor processes and the inability to detect insufficient postage or counterfeit indicia on non-standard items results in multi-million dollar annual losses for the postal service.

• Detects Indicia Fraud - StampVerify automatically detects, locates and validates stamps compared against a database of stamps issued or authorized by the US Postal Service. If a stamp does not match the database, it is flagged as a suspected counterfeit.
• Protects Postage Revenue - StampVerify uses advanced recognition technology developed by Parascript to reliably read postage amounts printed in different types of indicia. If a stamp does not contain a printed value, StampVerify validates the value of the stamp against a database of stamps issued or authorized by the US Postal Service.
